Beacon City Council Minutes

Tuesday, July 7, 2015

 7:00 p.m.

 

I.    Call to Order- Mayor Jim Hughes called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Members present:  Richard Thomas, Ron Kauffman, Dwight Teeter, Cecil Smith, Darrell Rust.

II.   General Business

 

A.  Review Minutes from June 2 Meeting-

C.  Claims Report-

D.  Sewer Report –

E.  Water Reports –

F.   Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter-2 animals were picked up

G.  Sheriff’s Report-

 

Motion to approve consent agenda made by Richard Thomas, seconded by Ron Kauffman.  Motion passed.

 

III.    Old Business:

A.  Hall Rentals-6 rentals for June, 4 rentals scheduled for July.

B.  Clean-up & Animal Control-Lots of discussion about trailer clean-up.  Jim will contact Eric Dursky to give us ideas and options in cleaning it up.

C.  Street Signs-Council is planning on trying to put up the new street signs on September 12th and 19th.  They will start at 8:00 a.m.

E.  Storm Sirens-No response to the ad in the newspaper and no word from Jamey Robinson on bids for the storm sirens.  Jim will call Jamey.

F.  2016 Election-A special meeting will be held on Thursday, July 16 @ 7:00 p.m. to discuss publication of Local Sales Tax for the 2016 election.  Lois and Jill will work on wording the publication.

 

 

IV.    New Business

 

  1.  Culvert/Fora St.A culvert was plugged, when we tried to unplug it the culvert fell apart and the resident’s garage was full of water.  The City received a bid from Troy DeMoney to replace with an 18” culvert including ditch and cement for $9,000.  Duane Jemison’s culvert needs replaced also.  His part would be $2,600 otherwise the ditch will be dug out.  Motion to approve bid made by Darrell Rust, seconded by Ron Kauffman.  Motion passed.

     

  2. Mid American Letter-The City received a letter from Mid American Energy stating that the street light bulbs will be changed to use LED lights.  The City has up to 10 years to complete the light bulb change.  The City has an option to change the bulbs immediately although it will cost $100/bulb.  The Council decided to not pay now and let Mid American to do this when they have time.  Motion to approve made by Dwight Teeter, seconded by Darrell Rust.  Motion approved.

     

  3. Mailbox-There is a mailbox on Elm Street that is too close to the road.  Jim will talk to homeowner about moving it.

     

  4. Tree needs trimmed-A tree in the 500 block of Front St. is hanging on the road and needs to be trimmed.  Council will talk to home owner and see if they can help them get it trimmed up.
