Beacon City Council Minutes

Tuesday, September 4th, 2018

7:00 p.m.

Call to Order- Mayor Jim Hughes called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. City Council members present: Richard Thomas, Ron Kauffman, Danny Fetters, and Dwight Teeter. City Council members absent: Cecil Smith.

General Business

  1. Review Minutes from August 7th, 2018 Meeting
  2. Treasurer’s Report-
  3. Claims Report-

Motion made to approve the consent agenda made by Richard Thomas, seconded by Ron Kauffman. All members voted in favor, motion approved.

Old Business

  1. Hall Rentals- one two-day rental in August.
  2. Clean-up & Animal Control- No report from Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter
  3. Committee Reports- No report
  4. City Code Codification- City Clerk, Jaimie, has sent our current code of ordinances to Sterling Codifiers.
  5. Storm Siren- The City is waiting to hear from Jamey Robinson with the Mahaska Co. EMA to see if City of Beacon Resolution 7-03-18 has been approved by the Mahaska Co. EMA.
  6. Nuisance/Abandoned Property Abatement- City Clerk is waiting to hear back from City Attorney, Jeff Smith, in regards to Iowa Code 364.12.
  7. Trees on Sheridan Street- Mayor Jim Hughes and Council Member Ron Kauffman trimmed the trees on Sheridan Street.
  8. Alley Closure- The City of Beacon will close the alley for Joe Smith on September 22nd.

New Business

  1. Resolution SFR17-18 City Street Financial Report- Resolution SFR17-18 entitled “FISCAL YEAR 2018 CITY STREET FINANCIAL REPORT” was introduced. Ron Kauffman moved its approval, Danny Fetters seconded. All members voted in favor, motion approved. Whereupon the Mayor declared said resolution duly adopted.
  2. Close Front Street- Lucille Thompson wants to close Front Street on October 6th and 7th. Ron Kauffman moved to close Front Street on October 6th and 7th, seconded by Danny Fetters. All members voted in favor, motion approved.
  3. Culvert on Sheridan Street- The culvert on Sheridan Street needs completed. Concrete Expressions is to submit bid.
  4. Signage- Ron is going to get quotes on prices for 2-4 road closed signs.
  5. Cars on City Property- There have been cars sitting on City of Beacon property at 301 Leighton Street for the past three years. Ron will contact Doug’s 4 Wheelers or Witts Salvage to tow the vehicles.

Next Scheduled Council Meeting Thursday, October 4th at 7 p.m.

Adjournment- Motion to adjourn made by Dwight Teeter, seconded by Ron Kauffman. All members voted in favor, motion approved. Meeting adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
